Aflatoxins (B1, B2, G1 and G2) are highly toxic mycotoxins that can occur naturally in certain food crops including nuts (e.g. Brazil, peanut, pistachios, almonds). Due to concerns about their toxicity regulatory limits are in place, a recent Food Standards Agency survey has shown that in 95% of nut and nut based products aflatoxins were absent or below the legal level. However aflatoxins were found in 5% of samples at total aflatoxin levels between 9.9 and 710?g/kg.www.food.gov.uk/news/newsarchive/aflatoxinsurvey
